Mulloway Fishing Basics
Mulloway, also called jewfish in many areas, are one of the most prized estuary, beach and breakwall species. They reward patience, timing and attention to conditions.
Where to look
Mulloway often relate to deep holes, bridge pylons, breakwalls, river mouths, beach gutters and areas where bait collects. They are structure and current fish, but they also move with tides and bait schools.
Best windows
Many anglers target them around tide changes, especially near low light. Moon phase, swell, bait presence and pressure changes can all matter. A strong bite window may be short, so preparation is important.
Bait and approach
Fresh squid, live bait, large soft plastics, vibes and hardbody lures can all work. The key is to fish likely water at the right time and keep the bait or lure in the strike zone.
