Best Fishing Times in Winter
Winter fishing can be excellent when you adjust your expectations. Cooler water changes species behaviour, feeding windows and the best areas to target.
Winter species
In many areas, winter can produce tailor, salmon, bream, luderick, snapper, mulloway, trevally and flathead depending on location. Some summer species slow down, while cooler-water species become more reliable.
Timing
Because mornings are colder, the best bite may occur when sunlight warms shallow water slightly or when tide movement concentrates bait. Dawn can still be excellent for beaches, rocks and predators.
Approach
Slow presentations, fresh bait and accurate location choice become more important. Look for clean water, bait, deeper holes, structure and manageable wind.
